The Holy Spirit is Your Friend

We may never appreciate enough the salvation of our souls. Most times we tend to think that we were the ones seeking God and the salvation of our souls.

The truth is that God created us, sorts out our salvation and daily leads us in the path of righteousness for his name sake.

Psalm 100:3 says “Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture”

God created us for his purpose and all men are like tenants on earth and will eventually leave it.

Jesus said in Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”  All anyone should do is to open the door of his or her heart and let him in. He is to be saviour and Lord of our lives.

Jesus is Lord of all but somehow many of us think that we were saved because we searched God out; no it is him that sought for us. When we get saved, he is Lord; he has not surrounded the initiative or the leadership to us. He sent the comforter, the Holy Spirit, to us, to take care of us. We should not live a moment without him.

Romans 8:26-27 says, “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” NKJV.

The major part of our lives as believers should consist of worship and praise; we should live in faith and trust God to do all he has promised to do in our lives. Our walk with God, our work for him and our prayers are all made profitable as we appreciate the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

If we look at the experience of Moses we will understand our limitations. Moses was told beforehand how Pharaoh will respond to his mission; however he was constantly under pressure and tends to forget what God told him. In Exodus 14: 15-18 “And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.   But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.  And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen.  Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.” NKJV.

It looked at this point as if God was frustrated with Moses’ incessant cries and commanded him to stop crying and act in faith. When he did, he saw the glory of God. He saw the sea part, Israel delivered and the Egyptians destroyed.

While many people struggle with letting the Holy Spirit take charge of their lives, they work hard to take the lead. It leads to frustration. You can always get better results with the Holy Spirit. He is your friend and he is purposely on earth to help you. If there was no need for comfort and help we will not need a comforter and a helper. Comfort here, is not used in a negative form. It is not just the comfort of consolation in a time of grief, it is all seasons’ comfort.

You are losing out when you fail to acknowledge your need for the Holy Spirit.

How to Achieve Quick Success

“Blessed is the person who does not follow the advice of wicked people, take the path of sinners or join the company of mockers. Rather, he delights in the teachings of the Lord and reflects on his teachings day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams— a tree that produces fruit in season and whose leaves do not wither. He succeeds in everything he does.”  Psalm 1:1-3. GW

Some years ago I was teaching Bible College students – “Spiritual leadership” and I gave example of the great work the Lord is using some prominent men of God to do; one of the students volunteered an unsolicited opinion of how he would achieve a greater success than that in few years. Well, what bothered me were his attitudes to it, it was not that God can’t use him for great things but he got it all wrong. He never achieved that goal. At another time i had an opportunity to prepare a group of people to plant a Church during a Church planting mission. I charged the students to trust God and give it their best shot, trusting the Lord for a breakthrough. They gave it their best efforts and God gave them good success.

Success requires a clear vision, focus, determination, courage and hard work. God is able to give his people breakthrough as they trust him. Sometimes the success comes fast and at other times it comes gradually and ultimately becomes very great.

An unguarded desire for quick success leads to riding on other people’s backs to attain success. It can lead to manipulation, tension, cheating and the use of unethical means to do things.

I know some group of people doing Multi-Level Marketing, who thrive on manipulating people. According to Wikipedia, “Multi-level marketing (MLM) is a marketing strategy in which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they personally generate but also for the sales of others they recruit, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation.” They produce letters for their recruit’s to send to their friends; in it they claim to have had hundreds of thousands of dollars (of cause that is false). They pose in the beaches and show pictures of expensive cars that they acquired without work. The result is that the unsuspecting fall into their trap.

There are people who engage on internet scam, identity theft and other unscrupulous business activities in their quest to get rich quick. They are always devising horrible tactics in their immoral business.

You can succeed in life. The Scriptures says in Proverb 14: 23 “In all labour there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty.” You can succeed in life doing honest business that you have chosen to do and in whatever field of human endeavour the Lord leads you to. If you make it your goal to give people value for their money, you will begin to see progressive and increased profit from your efforts.

“…. ‘Be strong and courageous! Don’t tremble or be terrified, because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9. GW.

Proverbs 10:24b says “And the desire of the righteous will be granted” KJV.

How to succeed with God

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32. KJV.

If you want to know how to succeed with God, that is how to get his presence, favour, blessings, and power, then keep reading.

Nobody can succeed with God at his own terms. You can only do that when you find out what God wants and do it.

Many people who set out to work for God without firstly desiring to walk with him end up in self-serving and at the best serving an organisation. We must always remember that success at a thing does not equate to God’s approval.

“Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:22-24. NIV.

The people who will suffer the rejection stated in the above scripture actually did great work and achieved many things that many people crave for today but then it all ended in disaster.

It is very good to serve God and to do it with passion. It is good to do exploit for God. What I am saying is that one must do it at God’s instance.

We could be motivated to work for God by many reasons. It could be prodding from people, it could be the desire to pay God something in return for what he did for you, it could be the desire to be like others who are doing something, it could be for the reward it brings-the glamour of being at the front rows of action, or as a result of confusion and frustration. Those are not the right motivation and should be ignored.

Like Abraham, Moses, David, Peter, Paul and others, it is important to find out what God wants done.

The next bit is the real issue. When you have found out what God wants you to do, do it.

I will come back with more on these issues.

Shalom.

He is near!

How far is God from us? You can find this question very interesting in many ways. I know that many people will want to show they are very intelligent by giving very smart and straight answers and many will become apprehensive and many don’t know what to say.

I have watched with interest as people live out this question in their daily lives. It shows up in our prayers, church, in attitudes, in business, in relationship, family, politics and social lives. Sometimes we make so much efforts looking for God as if he is hiding somewhere. He said in Jeremiah 29:13, “…And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” KJV.

He did not say go to the sea to look for me or go to the mountain to find me. He did not say travel to somewhere to search for me; but these are the very things we invest our time doing. Sometimes it is absurd the way we go about them.

After giving his disciples his last instruction before he was taken up to heaven he told them

“….lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” Matthew 28:20. KJV.

We are more eager to go about these things irrespective of what the word of God says and of course we have people who are vehemently encouraging us to keep on living as we do. Apostle Paul lamented about such style of life concerning Israel in Romans 10:1-3. “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”

From all scriptural evidences God is near. He is near to you; he hears, sees and feels much more than you can ever imagine. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Christian or not. God is there. This may sound strange but look at it this way, how will God reward or judge people if he does not see them or hear what they say?

God is near. Your perception of him depends on the knowledge you have and on your relationship with him. If you know that God is near, you may choose to behave differently and believe differently. For instance if you know that God is everywhere, you won’t go to the seaside or the mountain top to look for him; you will not shout to make him hear (I don’t criticise speaking out when praying) and you won’t want to hit your wife at home and after preach in church. How about using different measures in business and outright manipulation of figures to gain advantage over others?

God is near you; this will give you comfort in time of need and in situations difficult to understand or in problems that persisted for a long time. When people close their minds to God they see him as far. When people wantto put God in a box they shout at him to comply or get booted. When people walk in disobedience they shut their minds from hearing God. When people what to use God, they keep hearing their human spirits and the demons at worst.

The Holy Spirit wants you to know he is there for you always. He is the best friend you can ever think of. God started looking for you before you ever knew anything about him. God made provision for you before you asked him. He is not willing to leave you and please don’t walk away from him. He cares and he does that passionately.
